UK National Three Peaks Challenge

Category: Hiking Events

Stand on the summits of the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales all inside 24 hours.

Scotland (Fort William), England (Lake District), Wales (Snowdonia)

Ben Nevis (1,345 m, highest in Scotland/UK)
Scafell Pike (978 m, highest in England)
Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa (1,085 m, highest in Wales)

22 miles, 35 km

469 miles, 755 km

9,734 ft, 2967 m

24 hours (the challenge window, including driving); guided groups sometimes complete in as little as 13 hours of combined mountain time.

Ben Nevis: long steady path, rocky near summit. Scafell Pike: rocky, typically tackled overnight by head-torch. Snowdon: well-maintained paths, several route options.

Very Hard — the difficulty here is as much about sleep deprivation and logistics (overnight driving between three separate mountain regions) as the walking itself.

May–September; night navigation on Scafell Pike is a factor regardless of season since the schedule typically has this leg partly in the dark.

This is a logistics-heavy event as much as a hiking one — the 24-hour clock includes ~10+ hours of driving/transfers, which can mean minimal or interrupted sleep whilst in transit.
